Long overdue

I apologize for not being more current, but life got in the way. Actually its helpful as a storyteller at times because it gives me plenty to write about.

First, the new job is going very well. I am being asked to shepherd a great tradition of service into a new model that is more focused and organized. Talk about potential. The key is moving at the right rhythm and pace. In the beginning I will be spending my time observing and celebrating what has happened and what is happening now.

Second, I've had some medical issues pop up. I would love your prayers. I am working with my doctor to figure out a parathyroid issue. We noticed high calcium levels in my bloodwork and thus began the hunt. I have an ultrasound next Friday, and after that we will know what the next course of action will be. I must say being married to an almost doctor can have its advantages and disadvantages. Advantage, I know exactly what I'm dealing with. Disadvantage I know exactly what I'm dealing with.

Finally, I attended a quick gathering of churches at Peachtree Presbyterian that featured thought around missional thinking for the church. It was really great. I met some cool new people and was given some great things to ponder going forward as a church staff member. In particular, acknowledging that we are simply a part of God's redemptive mission really changes the perspective of the church.

How about the thought that God is doing things in the world without our help? What, I thought we had to do the work or it wouldn't get done. Interesting concept to think that God is doing the work and we simply have the joy of being a part of the redemptive mission. That is something to much on for a while.

One last note. Its a month until Match day for Stacey. I'm having trouble being patient. I want to know. Life is incovenient like that more than I would prefer.

Some News

Greetings to all.
I apologize for the delay in a new post, but I've been awaiting on some news to become official. I am taking a new job in about a week. I will be the Urban Ministries Coordinator at North Avenue Presbyterian Church. North Avenue Presbyterian is a church located in downtown Atlanta just a short walk over the interstate from Georgia Tech.

In this position I will be connecting the church staff, leadership and membership with need in the local Atlanta community. Some of the major issues North Avenue deals with daily are homelessness and sex trafficking. These are two areas I've been working on for a while.

Stacey and I have been attending this church for over a year now and love the community. I am really excited about the new position. It will allow me to work on causes that I believe Jesus calls us to be actively engaged in. They aren't easy issues but the work we're called to in the Gospels is very challenging to carry out in our world. Challenges are good. I grow in my faith the most when I'm challenged.

I will also get to utilize my media background to help tell the stories of the work. That element is also very exciting to me. Many times the collective church does great things in Christ name, but nobody knows about it and thus it can't be celebrated.

My excitement over the new position allowed me to ease past the horrible occurrence that I witnessed from 9 pm to 11 pm Wednesday night. I just assume never witness something like that again. If you're wondering what I'm referring to, sometimes ignorance is bliss.
