Its been a big week! Stacey started Residency Orientation at Emory in Pediatrics. Her new colleagues and supervisors seem to be very nice so far. I have gotten the chance to attend two social events with her. Its been quite a pleasant surprise so far because unlike her medical school days the conversation has the ability to branch beyond whatever they did that day in class. In other words I have a chance to actually understand and follow the conversation.
One of the most interesting things we discovered right away was how many residents in their program were commuting similar if not farther distances than Stacey. We had been wondering if Smyrna to Emory in East Atlanta was going to be realistic. Well, it is. One less headache to worry about. The part of town that Emory is in is very cool but very locked in and expensive. It has a really artsy feel, lots of places to walk to and hang out in. The neighborhoods are older and have a very distinct character. Just wasn't in our wheelhouse right now. Not an issue anymore.
On Friday Night we went to see the musical "Jersey Boys". I had heard that it was very good and when researching it, discovered it had won the 2006 Tony Award. I was looking for something fun to do with Stacey that was not a typical evening for us. It was playing at the Fox Theatre which is literally diagonal from North Avenue Presbyterian. Perfect. I surprised Stacey with the tickets a Wednesday Night and we had ourselves a date. The show is about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The show is full of their hits and some other hits. Its full of energy, dancing, comedic lines, and really innovative visual elements. It was brilliant. I was engaged the entire show. The audience went wild all night. Everybody over the age of 40 in the room was singing along. Thanks to my long car trips growing up with Ray and Diane Cobb and their inability to listen to anything but oldies, Sandi Patti, Amy Grant, and Steve Green on those car trips, I was fully award of all the Four Seasons hits. If you get a chance to see it...Go!
My buddy Jeff and I recorded our first podcast this week. Its not published yet because well it needs some work. We are going to clean it up this week and then it will be available. I will put a link on the blog and on Facebook so that everyone that wants to spend thirty minutes laughing and or shaking your heads at what is going through our heads, you can subscribe in itunes and starting listening. Its free so it won't hurt you.
Finally, I have to give a shout out to one of the regular readers of this blog. Dr. Steve Hayner counts himself a reader, and he is a former President of Intervarsity Fellowship, he is on the Board of WorldVision, International Justice Mission, and was a professor at Columbia Theological Seminary. Was because he is now the President. That is awesome. They couldn't have picked a better guy for the job.
