Different Kind of Bible Study

The journey to becoming a doctor update: Stacey interviewed with Emory on Tuesday and is interviewing with the University of Kentucky today and with Cincinnati Children's on Friday. Apparently it was snowing in Lexington this morning. She is growing a bit weary of the process, because of the intensity it requires of her to focus on answering questions and processing all the information being thrown at her. I'm anxious to hear what she thinks of the programs in the midwest.

In the meantime I attended a men's community bible study at our church last night. What is unique about this bible study is that is a gathering of congregation members and homeless men. Mostly its homeless men. I must say you gain new perspective reading scripture about the poor when reading that scripture with a homeless man.

The biggest benefit for me is its a chance to build new relationships with guys that have fascinating life experiences. Many of them are faithful Christians, who just haven't been able to overcome various obstacles in their lives. Sometimes thats a drug addiction, or lack of education, or a criminal history. Regardless of what it is, these guys practice being in the presence of God in their unique situations. It might be sitting in a park all day or it could be working a minimum wage job.

As someone who believes in helping find solutions for the problems that face our community, I get a chance to gain valuable insight into a world I am blessed not to live in, while also being able to hear interesting stories and study the Scriptures at the same time.
