Youtube has become a wasteland of really bad videos. With the inclusion of webcams built in to Macs and many PC laptops now, people make videos without even thinking. I occasionally do some research into what is out there in cyberspace looking for trends and new ideas. Most of the time I'm hard pressed to find anything really inspiring.
However, when I do find something, I'm always excited to pass it along to a friend or family member for them to enjoy. My own reaction gives me hope as a video producer myself. I know that if I can continue to come up with good ideas and then turn those ideas into a well made video, it will have a positive impact.
There is still something to be said for expertise and art involved in creating media. It's now easier than ever to create a picture slideshow to music or a video. That being said most of the finished products are painful to sit through.
A built in video camera on a laptop doesn't magically give someone a good sense of humor. For many people I didn't want to hear the story or comment in person, and I especially don't want to watch in on badly produced video.
